At this year’s SPS/IPC/DRIVES, HEIDENHAIN is presenting innovative position encoders for drives and automation. Thanks to their optical, robust inductive scanning, they provide precise position and speed control in demanding applications. As motor feedback system both for conventional motors and for direct drives, they offer functional safety in applications up to SIL-3. However, a further topic is connection technology under the general concept of their “single-cable solution.”
With the series launch of their bearingless ExI 1300 rotary encoders with inductive scanning and a size of 65 mm, HEIDENHAIN now offers an expanded portfolio for the realization of highly dynamic and energy-efficient servo drives for safety-related applications. Thanks to their mechanical dimensions for mounting and their EnDat 2.2 interface, the new encoders are compatible with the optically scanned EQN 1300 series of rotary encoders, which has been available for several years, and can cover nearly the entire spectrum of possible applications.
With its “single-cable solution,” HEIDENHAIN integrates the encoder lines into the power cable. This enables manufacturers to integrate the lines for encoders, motors and brakes in only one cable. This results in a number of cost and quality benefits for the motor manufacturer or machine-tool builder. The HMC 6 single-cable solution has been specially conceived for the HEIDENHAIN EnDat 2.2 interface with purely serial transmission. However, all other encoders with purely serial RS-485 interface can also be connected.
